Piet Mondrian

Master of the straight line, the perfect grid, and the primary colors, Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) was one of the founders of historical abstraction and the great figure of the De Stijl movement in search of total art. The Dutch artist aimed to create a universal yet radical pictorial language without neglecting the spiritual dimension. Alongside Wassily Kandinsky and Kasimir Malevich, but in a very different style, Mondrian enshrined the birth of modern art.
